MSK Diagnostic Ultrasound
Our state-of-the-art diagnostic ultrasound services provide accurate imaging for a variety of medical conditions, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment planning.
Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound is a powerful and painless tool to provide real-time images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and cartilage throughout the body, used to diagnose musculoskeletal conditions.
As well as it’s diagnostic abilities it can be very effective at tracking progression of certain conditions and can help to inform us on effective treatment selection.
Ultrasound can also be useful in the assessment of nerve impingements, monitoring of tissue healing (such as muscles and tendons), as well as to confirm areas of swelling.
Conditions we do not scan:
Please note we do not scan for:
-
Assessment of ‘lumps and bumps’
-
Abdominal region, including hernias
-
The spine, trunk or pelvis e.g. lumbar spine, thoracic spine and cervical spine/neck area
Key Benefits
•Results immediately available which can be considered alongside your physical assessment. •Dynamic scanning (scanning whilst patient performs movement) and comparison with the asymptomatic side. •Ultrasound guided procedures e.g. steroid, hyaluronic acid or PRP injections. •Cost effective. Ultrasound is less expensive than most alternative forms of imaging. •Diagnostic ultra sound is safe, non-invasive and does NOT use radiation. •Fast and painless takes about 30 mins. •No known side effects.
Other Information
Is my ultrasound scan covered by medical insurance? Unfortunately not, you will need to self -fund the appointment. What do I need to do to prepare for an ultrasound scan? For an MSK Ultrasound there is little preparation that needs to take place. Please be prepared to expose the area of body to be scanned, such as wearing a pair of shorts or a sports bra.
Conditions MSK US can Indentify
•Shoulder – rotator cuff tendinopathy and bursitis. •Foot and ankle – ligament injury, tendinopathy, bursitis, Morton’s neuroma, plantar fasciitis •Knee – patella tendinopathy, quadriceps tendinopathy, osteoarthritis, bursitis, joint effusions, Baker’s/popliteal cyst, hamstring injuries. •Elbow – tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, biceps injuries. •Wrist and hand – carpal tunnel, tendinopathy.
MSK US & Physiotherapy Assessment
Due to its dynamic nature and ease of access diagnostic ultrasound complements a physiotherapy assessment extremely well. It can be used as part of your Physiotherapy Assessment to ensure you have the most accurate diagnosis and the very best physiotherapy treatment to help your recovery.
Skincare Cryotherapy Clinic
Our skin tag cryotherapy clinic offers a quick and effective solution for removing skin tags using freezing techniques. Say goodbye to skin tags with minimal discomfort and downtime.
Skincare cryotherapy (freezing) is a procedure that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze skin lesions as a form of treatment.
Our Cryotherapy clinic treats Skin Tags, Seborrheic Warts, Viral Warts and Actinic Keratosis (sun damaged areas of the skin on the body). It is suitable for lesions on the face and body.
On average, Cryotherapy will remove 80% of surface skin lesions. That means for 8 out of 10 people their skin lesions will disappear.
Please note, sometimes repeated treatments may be required to achieve this result. This will be discussed with you at your initial consultation.
What Does the Procedure Involve?
Liquid nitrogen is applied to the skin using a specialist spray gun. A local anaesthetic is not normally required as pain is usually mild and short-lived. The procedure lasts a matter of seconds; the precise time depends on the thickness and size of the lesion. The frozen skin becomes white and takes one to two minutes to thaw back to normal skin temperature. Your doctor may suggest that the process be repeated once the skin has thawed.
Post-Treatment Care
Aim to keep the treated area dry for 24 hours. You can then wash the areas gently and pat dry with a soft towel or tissue. A petroleum jelly can be applied daily to help the area heal and prevent crusting. It is important not to pick the scab as this will encourage scarring. A dressing or plaster is not usually advised, unless the treated area is likely to be knocked or rubbed by clothing.
Side Effects
Treatment is likely to produce a reaction similar to a burn, with a sore, red, swollen area that may even blister. After a few days a scab will form and this will take 2-6 weeks to fall off. The treated area usually heals without leaving a scar, but some people heal with a pale white scar or, less commonly, a darker area of skin.
Important Information
Some skin lesions may not respond to Cryotherapy at all. You will be advised at your initial consultation. Viral warts usually need multiple repeated treatments before they settle as they are caused by a virus which is very difficult to eradicate. We allocate 20 minutes for a session, however this may be shorter depending on the skin lesions presented.
