Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

Shockwave Therapy is an up-to-date and extremely successful treatment type in Physiotherapy rehabilitation.

Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective treatment for tendon related pain and chronic soft tissue injury
It is also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

ESWT is a non-invasive energy sound wave that is delivered via a hand held probe in clinic setting.
The shockwaves produce a major increase in circulation to the injured area and cause the breakdown of scar tissue which has develops as an injury becomes chronic. Scar tissue is not elastic and therefore produces reduction of normal movement and therefore restricts function.

By increasing blood flow and removing scar tissue, shockwave will stimulate cell regeneration and promote normal healing. Normal function can then be restored with a specific exercise programme
Shockwave is effective for treatment of:

·         Plantar Fasciitis
·         Lateral Epicondylitis ( tennis elbow)
·         Patellar tendinitis
·         Achilles tendonitis
·         Shoulder tendinitis
·         Hip Bursitis
